1) Approach 

  1. Prepare the standard to reflect the best practice
  2. Communicate the standard to all the stakeholders.  Explain the what of the standard
  3. Educate the core team about the standard by clearly explaining the what and why of the standard
  4. Train the actual doer/user Here, train the user on what, why, and how of the standard
  5. Conform to Standards (by the users  ) 
  6. Check for abnormalities
  7. Eliminate causes of abnormalities to bring the process back to its original condition.

3) Standardization and FMEA

 The tool, Failure Mode and Effect Analysis (FMEA) can be effectively used to arrive at Control Points for SOP.  The technique, is the method of identifying possible failures in a process, rank them in order to prioritize and evolve countermeasures to the priority failures.  The whole exercise is done through team working and countermeasures are selected based on their mitigating capability.  More often than not, Poka - Yoke or mistake - prevention measures become the outcome of such exercises.  The countermeasures evolved through the FMEA can be incorporated as Control Points for the SOPs.  This way of arriving at Control Points is the most effective and robust way and therefore, it is recommended that FMEA is done prior to the preparation of Standards / SOP.
